There’s something about the contrast between black and gold that I’m always drawn to. Sometimes it appears quite subtly in my work – perhaps a fine thread of gold weaving through darker tones and adding a quiet sense of elegance.
But with this piece, I decided to go a little bolder. The gold isn’t champagne gold, it’s GOLD gold!
The black sequins and gold beadwork give the leaf motif a more dramatic feel, while still sitting beautifully against the natural jute. It has a richness to it that immediately elevates the overall look.
I like the idea that this bag becomes part of the gift itself, transforming something simple into something that feels much more special. It’s also a piece that lends itself beautifully to being kept and reused, perhaps sitting in a dressing room or wardrobe, holding favourite accessories.
I’ve called her Valentina – confident, dramatic and effortlessly elegant.
