The maker, Anne-Marie, says…
When I first saw this appliqué, I couldn’t wait to start working with it. It felt so romantic and feminine, and I was immediately drawn to the gentle palette of colours.
I was keen to preserve the soft bouquet feel of the design, but I found the blush flowers with their pink bead centres naturally took the lead. I wanted to bring the lilac tones forward so they played an equal role, so I began by adding a few pale mauve half-moon beads. As with many designs, it quickly became a question of instinct and in this case, I realised that more was less!
By introducing a fuller scattering of mauve beads, balanced with just a few additional pink accents, the whole piece came together beautifully. Positioning the appliqué diagonally also allowed for the perfect placement of a coordinating heart charm, which completes the design.
I love the idea of this being part of the gift itself. Something that continues to be useful long after the wrapping is gone.
I’ve called her Eliza – soft, romantic and quietly elegant.
