The maker, Anne-Marie, says…
I don’t always go for bold colour. I’m usually drawn to softer, gentler tones, but every now and then something comes along that simply makes me smile and this butterfly appliqué was one of those pieces.
There’s such a joyful energy in the colours, almost like a little burst of carnival, and I couldn’t resist working with it. The embroidery is beautifully detailed and, once stitched onto the bag, it really comes to life against the neutral background.
As with many of my designs, it’s always about finding the balance, allowing the colours to shine without overwhelming the simplicity of the bag itself.
This particular bag is made from a jute-style fabric rather than natural jute fibres, giving it a slightly softer feel. It’s also fully lined with a handy inner pocket, making it practical as well as colourful. I think it works beautifully as a gift bag, but it’s equally useful for everyday life too.
I’ve called her Zara – vibrant, expressive and full of joyful energy.
